Europe is a great continent. As many travellers
say, when you visit Europe, it’s like going back in time when you see enchanted
castles, beautiful paintings, carefully-preserved buildings, and
knowledge-enhancing museums. You can find endless fields of flowers and
spectacular landscapes that makes you wonder if you are still here on Earth or
in Dreamland.
No wonder why millions of people each year
shell out a lot of money to have a European vacation.
When you go for a European vacation, you should
not miss important sites. Indeed, some of these sites can be considered cradles
of modern civilization and culture.
In a standard European vacation, one of the
first countries that you will go to is the United Kingdom. There are lots to
see in the United Kingdom. As starters, don’t miss the Clock Tower in London,
which is the world’s largest four-faced chiming clock. The tower is built at
the north-east end of the House of Parliament building.
While vacationing in the United Kingdom, you
might also want to stop by Scotland. Here, you can see medieval castles so well
preserved by the government. You may also have the chance to visit the famous
Loch Ness, the alleged home of the lake monster Nessie. While in Edinburgh, you
can also visit the small but important dog statue of Greyfriars Bobby. Tales
say that this Bobby, a faithful Skye terrier guarded his master’s grave for
fourteen years. This made him—and Edinburgh, in turn—famous.
European vacations also include a tour of
France. France is one of Europe’s birthing place of art, music, and food. When
in France, be sure to visit their Notre Dame cathedrals; they are a testament
to the gothic culture in France several hundred years ago.
When having a European vacation, don’t forget to visit the nearby country of Germany. This is the country of the famous dictator Adolf Hitler, who started World War II. The capital of Germany is Berlin.
When visiting Berlin, it is almost a sin not to
stop by the Brandenburg Gate, the icon of the city. It is a former city gate
that constitutes the monumental termination of Unter den Linden. The Unter den
Linden itself is a famous avenue that is lined with linden trees. This leads
directly to the royal residence.
Another important landmark in Berlin is the
ruins of the Berlin Wall, once a border of the divided city. The opening and
dismantling of the Berlin wall marks the end of communism.
From Germany, you may want to proceed to Rome,
the capital of Italy. Here, you can find ancient buildings, most notably, the
Coliseum, where gladiators fought for their lives. This is also where you can
find the Vatican City, the home of the Christian pope, and the birthplace of
Catholicism.
If you want a touch of antiquity in your
European vacation, you might want to visit Greece. Here, you can see ancient
stone structures that were used as places of worship for Greeks of ages past.
Among the most popular is the Pantheon in Athens. Greece is also the venue of
the first Olympics games.
If you want to go old-style shopping in Greece
as part of your European vacation, you can walk by a kantouni or side street. They sell everything from clothes to
fruits to radios.
Truly, Europe is a wonderful place to be. For
