the beautiful view of -Victoria Falls
The Victoria Falls is named after Queen Victoria after David Livingstone, a Scottish explorer, discovered it in 1855. Situated between Zambia and Zimbabwe on the Zambezi River, the Victoria Falls is one of the greatest waterfalls of the world. The Falls can be seen from 40 miles away. The noise from the roaring water is simply scintillating to the nerves. The gorging of the water can be heard from great distances.
Victoria Falls has been estimated to be formed about 150 million years ago because of earth's movement. Its pre-colonial history is vast. From the time of the Late Stone Age, the Khoisan tribes, the Bantu tribes, the Matabeles, the Batswana and the Makololo, have conquered the area. Despite all mighty conquest, the fall has forever been christened as the "smoke that thunders". The locals still call the fall "mosi-oa-tunya". 256 feet- 354 feet is the varying height of the fall and the breadth is around 5545 feet.
When To Visit?
As a place of tourism, Victoria Falls gathers millions every year. One requires Visa for a trip to the fall and the rice of the visa varies in both the countries, somewhere ranging between $50 and $150. One has to purchase visa every time they cross the border. The Victoria Falls also boasts of a naturally formed pool known as the Devil's Swimming Pool. It is just a breath taking view.
The best time to visit the falls is during the winter season because in rainy season, the visibility reduces due to heavy mist. It is dangerous to visit in dry season because the level of water increases.
However, the political tensions on the Zimbabwean side have lead to a decrease in tourist ratio but it is quite safe to visit from Zambia. The United Nations has considered the place to be a World Heritage Site.
